“Saiveon was a shining light that was there for everyone who loved him,” the GoFundMe description reads. “Father to a 10-month-old daughter who adored him, he also helped his terminally ill mother care for his siblings. Due to the financial strain already placed on the family for Jeni’s [his mother] medical care and the unexpected passing, I am wanting to help raise funds to relieve them of the financial burden during an already devastating time.”
The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. near North 11th and O streets in Lincoln. Local police responded to reports of gunfire and found two men with gunshot wounds. Hopkins was transported to a nearby hospital but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The second victim sustained non-life-threatening wounds. The police are still investigating the incident as the community mourns the loss of a young man taken too soon.
