Jacquees Reflects on Past Fight with Trey Songz, Clarifies Rumors on “Off The Record”
3 min readR&B singer Jacquees has finally addressed the rumors surrounding his physical altercation with fellow artist Trey Songz. In a recent interview with DJ Akademiks on the podcast Off The Record, Jacquees spoke candidly about the viral incident, reflecting on the situation and setting the record straight regarding their long-standing feud.
The altercation between the two singers first made headlines when Jacquees accused Trey Songz of inappropriate behavior during a heated Instagram rant in February. The incident occurred at a nightclub, where tensions boiled over and led to an alleged fight between the two artists. Despite their shared genre and similar fan base, Jacquees and Trey Songz have had a rocky relationship for years, with previous disagreements surfacing publicly. In the now-infamous Instagram video, Jacquees called Songz a “rapist” and expressed his anger following their confrontation.
During the Off The Record interview, Jacquees clarified his feelings toward Trey Songz, acknowledging that, despite their conflict, he still has love for the “Say Aah” singer. “Trey Songz is my brother. I love him to life. I don’t say I love you to death because that means you love them until they die,” Jacquees explained, trying to emphasize that their bond ran deeper than their fight. He admitted that his anger got the best of him after the altercation, leading him to vent his frustrations publicly. “We got into a fight, and I went online because I was hurt,” he said. “That was our first fight, and it really hurt me because I’ve been around Trey since I was 15 or 16, and I never expected us to fight physically.”
As DJ Akademiks pushed for more details about the incident, Jacquees confidently stated that he won the fight, even though he initially hesitated to provide specifics. “I won,” Jacquees claimed proudly, before adding that Trey Songz attempted to pull his hair during the scuffle. “He pulled my hair. But he didn’t beat the dreads out of sh*t,” he joked.
Despite claiming victory in the fight, Jacquees also expressed regret over how the situation escalated and became public. “That was a family fight,” he explained. “It should’ve never gone public. I put the family on blast, and you never put family on blast.” Jacquees remained firm in his belief that he handled himself appropriately but acknowledged his mistake in airing their private issues online.
In his initial video following the fight, Jacquees didn’t hold back, labeling Trey Songz with a series of insults and accusing him of making inappropriate comments about “rape” inside the nightclub. He also expressed frustration over what he perceived as Trey Songz’s fake affection and jealousy. Despite the harsh words exchanged, Jacquees later downplayed the altercation as something that should have stayed between them.
Trey Songz, meanwhile, has not publicly responded to Jacquees’ claims, remaining silent about the incident. The feud between the two R&B stars appears to be unresolved, but Jacquees’ recent comments suggest that, despite their differences, he hopes to move past the fight.
With both artists continuing to pursue their careers, it remains to be seen whether they will reconcile or if the tension between them will persist.
