Isaac Rochell, the NFL free agent formerly with the Las Vegas Raiders, recently took a playful yet pointed jab at Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker. Butker had come under fire for his controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College, where he made remarks perceived as anti-LGBTQ and sexist.

Isaac Rochell, 29, responded to Harrison Butker’s speech with a TikTok video showcasing his morning routine as an “NFL stay-at-home homemaker.” In the video, Rochell humorously embraces his role at home while emphasizing the importance of supporting his wife’s career aspirations.

“Yes, I do play in the NFL and yes, I’m playing next year,” Rochell begins in the clip. “But, as of right now, I’m a stay-at-home husband.” The video features Rochell singing to his five-month-old daughter, Scottie Bee, preparing her morning bottle, and doing various household chores such as folding laundry, washing dishes, and doing yard work.

Isaac Rochell captioned the post with “Definitely subtweeting,” accompanied by several eye emojis, signaling his indirect critique of Butker’s speech. Additionally, Rochell announced he would be selling “homemaker” hats on his social media, further solidifying his stance against traditional gender roles.

“As a girl dad, I will do everything I can to create the best world for my daughter to live in and that world does not include toxic masculinity,” Rochell stated on his Instagram Stories. “As men and husbands, it’s our responsibility, just like our wives, to support our partners’ vocational aspirations.”

Rochell’s post came a day after his wife, Allison Kucharczyk, voiced her opinion on Butker’s speech. Kucharczyk, who has actively pursued her own career while supporting Rochell’s football journey, emphasized the importance of maintaining her own identity and aspirations.

“I am just not an ‘NFL wife.’ That shouldn’t be what my entire life succumbs to. I choose to follow my husband to whatever state football brings him to,” she said on TikTok. “And along the way, I’ve made it a priority to ensure that I’m following my own dreams as well. My life didn’t start when I married my husband. It started when I was born and I’ve been working my ass off every second since.”

Kucharczyk’s video referenced a part of Butker’s speech where he quoted Taylor Swift, who has been dating his teammate Travis Kelce. “Imagine referring to Taylor Swift (one of the most successful music artists in the world) as ‘my teammate’s girlfriend,’” she wrote.

Harrison Butker, 28, sparked controversy with his 20-minute speech, which included criticisms of President Joe Biden, comments on “dangerous gender ideologies,” and assertions about women’s roles. He claimed that women’s “most important title” should be “homemaker,” sparking backlash from the public and figures like Maria Shriver.

“Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” Butker stated. “I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”

Butker’s speech, which also touched on topics such as abortion, IVF, surrogacy, and euthanasia, has been widely condemned for its outdated and restrictive views. Isaac Rochell and Kucharczyk’s responses highlight a more progressive stance on gender roles and the importance of mutual support in relationships.
