Legendary Actor And ‘Only Murder In This Building’ Star Steve Martin Announces His Plan To Retire From Acting

Steve Martin has declared that he may retire from acting after the conclusion of Only Murder in the Building. The comedic veteran recently revealed his retirement plans to The Hollywood Reporter. He added his ongoing You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today! tour with co-star Martin Short, “We were very happy just doing the live show.”There may be a natural end to that — someone becomes sick, someone simply tyres out — but I wouldn’t do it without Marty. “When this television programme is done, I’m not going to seek others. I’m not interested in doing cameos. Strangely, this is it.” If you ask Martin’s wife, she will tell you a different story. “My wife always tells me, ‘You’re always saying you’re going to retire, and then you do something,'” he said. “I’m not interested in retiring.” I’m not. But all I’d have to do is work a bit less. Maybe.” The former Saturday Night Live cast member is currently starring in Hulu’s critically acclaimed series, Only Murders in the Building. Savage, a semi-retired actor, launches a true crime podcast to investigate a death in his Upper West Side apartment complex.

When the script originally landed in his lap, he accepted to be a part of the television series on three conditions: if Short also starred, production would take place in New York, and he could be home by six o’clock every night. The first two demands were granted; however, Martin stated that the third request ‘didn’t work out’. Martin and Short first appeared on television together in The Three Amigos, featuring Chevy Chase, in 1986. They both confessed to The Guardian that they quickly realised they had met a comic soulmate while filming the film. “You make films together and live in each other’s lives for a few months, maybe in Yugoslavia or wherever, and then you never see each other again.” But both of us made each other laugh, and since we’re clowns, that’s a hugely appealing factor. Short explained that it resulted in a determination to see one another, have dinners, and go on family vacations together. Martin responded, “Marty just continued to follow me.” Short said that even though the comedic icon tried to distance himself, he never gave up. “I found his new number every time he changed his number!” he explained. Only Murders in the Building season three’s first two episodes are now available on Hulu and Disney+.
