2 min readHulu has returned with another thrilling drama this time revolving around axe murderer, Candy Montgomery. She brutally killed an elementary school teacher named Betty Gore. Candy made national headlines after Betty’s neighbours Lester Gaylord and Richard Parker found her dismembered body at her home.
Candy was arrested two weeks later after Betty’s body was found. She was deemed to be one of Betty’s neighbours as well as a close friend. Cops discovered fingerprints and footprints at the crime scene that were proved to be of Candy’s.

Who was Candy Montgomery?
Candace ‘Candy’ Montgomery resided in Fairview, Texas. She was a 30 years old stay-at-home mother of two. Candy was married to Instruments engineer Pat Montgomery.
It was reported that Candy and Betty were close family friends. They shared a big part of their lives together. They attended the same church and their children often played together.
Regardless, Candy pursued an affair with Betty’s husband, Allan Gore that lasted for a year. This may have been the reason for their fallout and the later gruesome turn it took.
How did Candy Montgomery murder, Betty Gore?
It all began when Betty Gore’s older daughter, Alisa had slept over at the Montgomery house. Candy offered to Alisa to drive her to her swim lesson the following day.
On 13th June 1980, while visiting the Gore house, Candy got into a verbal fight with Betty. They were arguing about Candy’s affair with Allan, Betty’s husband.
During the altercation, Candy’s attorney claimed that Betty grabbed an axe from her garage and lunged at Candy. It soon became a violent fight between the two women inside Betty’s utility room. Regardless, Candy managed to overwhelm Betty and ended up killing her.
Betty was found with 41 axe wounds, some of them were inflicted on her unconscious body.
When the trial commenced in October 1980, Candy alleged that she killed Betty as an act out of self-defence.
The trial went on for eight days. However, Candy got away with the murder after the 12-person jury bought her self-defence story and did not find her guilty.
Candy soon moved to Georgia after the trial.
As per the UK’s Daily Mail, Candy currently goes by the name of Candace Wheeler. She worked as a therapy provider for teens and adults.
According to a relative she is now 70 years old and suffers from PTSD.
Hulu is all set to release the story of the axe murderer in its upcoming mini-series Candy. The true series is to drop soon on the platform.
