On Wednesday, Darren Criss announced the death of his elder brother Charles Criss on Instagram. An emotional tribute revealed that Chuck, the brother he called ‘Chuck,’ had committed suicide.
In a recent interview, Darren Criss revealed that his brother suffers from depression. However, the Glee alum did not reveal the true reason behind his brother’s suicide because he did not want to reduce the severity of his struggles to a “reductive” explanation.
The death of Charles comes two years after the death of their father. Charles William Criss passed away in April 2020. A report from People magazine stated that he suffered from a rare condition that caused his heart to fail.
How old was Charles Criss?
Charles Criss was 36 years old when he passed away. Freelance Whales were a New York-based band of singers and multi-instrumentalists. The members met on Craigslist and began performing together. The bandmates also came from known circles of friends.
Weathervanes, the band’s debut album, was released in 2010. Two years later, the band released Diluvia. Charles released a solo album in 2013, in addition to being in the band.
Darren Criss explained in his heartbreaking post that “His impressive skills as a musician mixed with his poetic observation of the world resulted in an abundance of music that was entirely unique, clever, fun, intriguing, and beautiful.
While in high school, Charles Criss and Darren Criss formed their own rock band in their garage. Computer Games released their debut EP in 2017 under the name Computer Games.
Darren’s latest Instagram post received condolences
John Legend said “I’m so sorry Darren.” The Emmy winner thanked him for his “beautiful tribute” as well. Darren, I am sending so much love to you and your family.” Rachel Zegler commented.“
Lucy Hale expressed her condolences to her friend Darren, saying “Darren, I’m so sorry. This is a beautiful tribute. My prayers are with you, your family, his partner, three children, and all those who knew him.”
Charles Criss was a parent to three kids. His two eldest children were from his previous marriage, the youngest belonged to him and his partner.
