Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office releases Halyna Hutchins’ last moments before her death which enraged her family
Brian Panish, lawyer of Matthew Hutchins (Halyna’s husband) sent a scathing email to Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza.
The letter’s contents urged the sheriff to remove Halyna’s footage from their official website. The video showed Halyna breathing her last breaths after being shot.
The mail further mentioned that the New Mexico law permits the surviving family members of a victim to review such materials before they are circulated publicly.
Panish claims that the sheriff’s office has double-crossed the grieving widower who had been promised to review the documents before they are published.
Hutchin noted that the widely-shared footage could cause emotional trauma to their nine years old son Andros. He continued by adding that he is fearful that bullies will use the clip of his mother dying to taunt him and cause him further harm.
Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office published more than 200 pages of the case reports as well as personal information such as phone numbers, addresses along with social security numbers.
The department responded to Hutchin’s claims by mentioning that they published Hutchins’ police reports as an aspect of the state’s public records regulations. The requirement allows both the public and media to get access to such information.
