Hailey Bieber’s skincare Rhode was sued for trademark infringement by a clothing line with the same name

Hailey Bieber has found herself in hot waters over the name of her newly launched skincare brand, Rhode.

The model is being dragged into court by a clothing line that has filed a litigation suit against Bieber.

Hailey Bieber landed herself in legal issues for Rhode

Hailey Bieber’s business which is named after her middle name was sued for trademark infringement by a clothing brand of the same name.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court in the Southern District of New York in Manhattan on Tuesday.

NYC’s co-founders, Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers have mentioned that they want Bieber to stop using the brand name.

They also claimed that Bieber’s logo is similar to Rhode NYC.

Furthermore, they have pointed out that Bieber had tried to buy their brand name before but was unsuccessful. Hence, they said that despite knowing of their existence the model went on to launch her skincare line on 15th June 2022.

Rhode NYC co-founders reveal that Hailey Bieber tried to acquire the brand name a couple of years back

Rhode NYC released an official statement on its Instagram page on 21st June.

The company’s co-founders wrote that they were ‘forced’ to sue Hailey Bieber to save their brand.

They also confirmed that Bieber had attempted to buy their business name four years ago. However, the owners declined her request.

Khatau and Vickers said, ‘Hailey could choose any brand for her skin-care line. We have only the brand name “RHODE” that we’ve built.’

Moreover, the statement also pointed out that Bieber’s skincare line was ‘hurting’ their company including employees, customers, partners, and everyone associated with it.

TMZ has noted that they has already started facing problems on the internet. Social media users intending to tag Bieber’s brand mention their name by mistake which is causing consumer confusion.

Lisa T. Simpson, the litigation counsel for Rhode NYC mentioned that ‘[Bieber] did this despite knowing of Rhode and its prior rights.’

She added, ‘You can’t create this kind of brand confusion just because you want to use your name.’

They said that her company threatens to overshadow their clothing brand owing to the model’s fame. 

Rhode NYC was reportedly formed in 2013. Additionally, some celebrities have been previously captured in their outfits. The A-list personalities included Beyonce, Mindy Kaling, and Kelly Clarkson hence strengthening their credibility.
