Drake delivers a hilarious monologue at Nike headquarters

Drake recently gave a speech at the Nike Maxim Awards where he took a handful of digs at New Balance, Tyga, and Kanye West.

Drake joked about New Balance at Nike Maxim Awards

Drake is a lot of things, however, being a stand-up comedian might not be his forte. 

The Boy took the stage of Nike headquarters on 8th September Thursday as he was the host of the Nike Maxim Awards. The event was held in Beaverton, Oregon.

However, it seems like his off-hand remark about Nike’s age did not receive the laughs it deserved.

Drake told the crowd, ‘Nike is 50. Nike is so old it’s wearing New Balance.’

The audience on the other hand reacted with groans and minimal response.

Nevertheless, Drake was not deterred as he tried to make another joke. 

He mentioned, ‘I’ma take a drink real quick.’

The 35-year-old rap star continued, ‘Nike turning 50 means LeBron is gonna try to come and get you to play for the Lakers this year.’

Moreover, he added, ‘This is the year where you’re going to walk in a restaurant and see Nike having red wine with Jared Dudley and Carmelo Anthony.’

Apart from that, Drake made a few lighthearted jokes about the supply chain issue at Nike.

Drake pokes fun at Tyga during his monologue

Drake landed a few punchlines at several high-profile names including Adidas and Kanye West during his speech at the Nike Maxim Awards. 

However, fans were quick to notice that he also took a jab at Tyga during his speech.

The Canadian rapper quipped, ‘When you put things into perspective. Adidas has Kanye, I think.’

Furthermore, the statement succeeded to drew laughter from the audience at the massive gala.

Nevertheless, Drake continued,  ‘Nike, we have LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Michael Jordan. The greatest creative mind of all time, Virgil Abloh, rest in peace. We have Cristiano Ronaldo.’

He went on to say, ‘We have Serena Williams. We have Tiger [Woods]. And I’m pretty sure Reebok has Tyga, so we’re good.’

If you didn’t know, the One Dance hitmaker has a long-running beef with Tyga. It is dated back to an interview of the 32-year-old rapper in 2014.

The Taste singer said at that time, ‘I don’t like Drake as a person. He’s just fake to me.’

Moreover, he added, ‘We were forced together and it was kinda like we were forcing relationships together.’
