What’s the significance of this week’s throwback? Nobody knows for sure. In the hip-hop game, the OVO rapper is invincible. Drake enjoyed one of the most dominant weeks in the 63-year history of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart last year, when he became the first artist to ever claim nine of the top ten spots in a single week. The Canadian superstar snatched the entire top five, a feat accomplished only once before by The Beatles for a week in 1964.
Taylor Swift, meanwhile, was named the Greatest Pop Star of 2021 by Billboard. “In 2021, no other prominent artist exploited that type of audience enthusiasm with as much passion and ingenuity as Taylor Swift, spanning albums and platforms, on projects that challenged the modern music industry while yet flourishing enormously inside it,” according to Billboard.
