Eddie Murphy takes a dig at the Golden Globes 2023 host’s Will Smith Joke while receiving an award. NBC and Peacock broadcast the 80th Golden Globes 2023 live on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Several prominent celebrities were honoured for their work in the film and television industry at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles during the live broadcast of the award show. The HFPA award show is back on television after a significant absence last year. US comedian Jerrod Carmichael hosts the Golden Globes 2023. A Will Smith joke was made during the awards ceremony, referring to the actor slapping Chris Rock in 2022.

The comedian said: During the commercial, we actually presented the Rock Hudson award for the best portrayal of masculinity on television to Will Smith. So please give it up to Will Smith. The joke, however, did not go over well. In response to the host’s joke about the incident, many fans were disappointed. Eddie Murphy later threw a dig at the host when he received the Cecil B. DeMille Award by saying: Mind your business, pay your taxes, and don’t mention Will Smith’s wife! Fans loved Eddie’s subtle dig at the host of the Golden Globes 2023.

During the Golden Globes 2023 ceremony, host Jerrod Carmichael gave the audience some “housekeeping” news. In his statement, the comedian poked fun at the Men In Black actor’s 2022 Oscars incident by stating that the award ceremony presented Will Smith with the Rock Hudson award for best portrayal of masculinity on television. Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock after the latter made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith at the 94th Academy Awards on March 27, 2022. Slapping the comedian was in response to the latter’s joke about her alopecia. Smith apologized later and was even banned from the Oscars for 10 years. Upon hearing Jerrod Carmichael make the comparison between Will Smith and Rock Hudson, fans were furious. Even though Hudson was not at the awards show, he struggled with the inability to come out as gay and lived a closeted lifestyle throughout his life.
