Demi Moore made headlines at the amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala in Cap d’Antibes, France, on Thursday after she scolded an audience member while introducing Cher. The 61-year-old actress was in the middle of a heartfelt tribute to the entertainment icon when someone in the back seemed to disrupt her flow.

A video posted on Twitter by Ramin Setoodeh captures the moment, starting with Demi saying, “I’m going to see if this is the moment we’ve all been waiting for.” She continued by listing Cher’s numerous accolades: “She’s a Grammy winner, an Oscar winner, an Emmy winner.”

However, Demi Moore suddenly paused, seemingly irritated by the disturbance. She then addressed the audience member directly: “Are you an Emmy winner over there in the back of the room? I f*g don’t think so.” The unexpected outburst drew mixed reactions from the crowd, with some cheering and others visibly surprised.

After regaining her composure, Moore resumed her introduction. “She’s a style icon and my personal hair inspiration. And she was honored by amfAR for their award of inspiration in 2015.” She praised Cher as “one of the most talented, successful, and best-loved performers of all time” before finally welcoming her to the stage.

The precise cause of Moore’s irritation remains unclear—whether it was due to something said by the audience member, general noise from the crowd, or perhaps a playful attempt to engage the audience. Nonetheless, her candid remark has been widely discussed.

Earlier in the evening, Moore and Cher, along with Cher’s boyfriend Alexander ‘AE’ Edwards, 38, posed together on the red carpet. The two stars enjoyed a reunion nearly 30 years after appearing together in the 1996 HBO series “If These Walls Could Talk.” The gala, an annual event since its inception in 1993 by Elizabeth Taylor, raises funds for HIV/AIDS research and attracts numerous celebrities.

Cher also performed at the event, dazzling in a black sparkling bodysuit and black leather jacket. A clip of her performance was shared by model Heidi Klum on Instagram, showcasing Cher’s enduring stage presence.

Inside the event, Demi Moore looked stunning in a plunging sparkling silver gown, which highlighted her enviable figure. The actress, who shares daughters Rumer, 35, Scout, 32, and Tallulah, 30, with ex-husband Bruce Willis, was there not only to support the cause but also to celebrate Cher’s illustrious career.

Demi Moore’s memorable introduction, despite the brief disruption, successfully set the stage for an evening celebrating the achievements of one of the entertainment industry’s most beloved figures. The gala, held during the Cannes Film Festival—a renowned event that began in 1939 and has been held annually since 1946—continues to be a significant platform for both film and philanthropy.

As the world’s biggest film festival, Cannes has a rich history of premiering films that go on to achieve Oscar glory and launching the careers of renowned directors. Its top prize, the Palme d’Or, has been awarded to cinematic masterpieces such as “Taxi Driver,” “Apocalypse Now,” “Pulp Fiction,” “The Pianist,” and “Parasite.”

Moore’s passionate and protective introduction of Cher underscored the evening’s celebration of talent and the ongoing fight against AIDS, reminding attendees of the importance of both respect and support within the entertainment community.
