In his major return to the Ed Sullivan Theatre, home of The Late Show, David Letterman received a long round of applause. The former late-night programme host returned to his old haunts and was met with a standing ovation from the audience, which included his replacement, Stephen Colbert. “Ladies and gentlemen, my guest tonight definitely needs no introduction,” Colbert remarked, introducing Letterman. “I am delighted to welcome Mr. David Letterman back to the Ed Sullivan Theatre.” The audience applauded and praised as Letterman stepped onto the set, soaking up all the love from those in attendance. “Wow! When the audience began shouting Letterman’s first name, the comedian inquired of Colbert, “What happened? “What are they up to now?” “Is there gonna to be trouble?” Letterman said as the audience became louder. Following his prolonged greeting, Letterman glanced at his watch. As Letterman sat down, he told Colbert to “control your people.” It was Letterman’s first appearance on the CBS late-night show since retiring after 23 years in May 2015. Letterman has a show on Netflix called My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, where he interviews people, since he stopped hosting The Late Show.
