I felt so helpless watching everything happen, so I knew I had to do something, she explained. Fresen, a Google software employee, began experiencing dizzy spells and vomiting as the pair was purchasing a home together. Doctors initially thought he had an ear infection, but once his vomiting became worse, he sought a private MRI. The scan revealed the tumour. Surgery confirmed that the growth in his brain was malignant. According to the Cleveland Clinic, it’s a kind of cancer that mostly affects youngsters. Epstein described how their entire life “fell out from under” them. Fresen had nerve damage as a result of the surgery, which caused paralysis on the right side of his face. In the aftermath of their breakup, Epstein moved back to Thailand to be with her father. Currently, the former couple is working on re-establishing a friendship. Epstein said: Despite not being a runner myself, and Jelle have run marathons before, I thought it would be a good challenge for me and a meaningful tribute to him, and it seemed like something to aim for. It’s been physically and mentally challenging training for the London Marathon but nothing like what her ex has been through. Epstein explained, If Jelle can go through all of this, then I will be able to run a marathon. On Sunday, Fresen will be there to support and cheer her on. She is running a 26.2-mile race, which he described as “incredible.”
