Chris Rock faces backlash for dismissing Meghan Markle’s racism claims in new comedy special
3 min readThe Netflix special Selective Outrage, which Chris Rock played, made headlines once again when he shot several shots at Meghan Markle. The show, which premiered on Saturday, March 4, 2023, included sections in which Chris Rock roasted the royal family based on racism, calling them the “OGs of racism,” and the Sugarhill Gang of racism. Rock also joked about Meghan, saying that some of the things she had to deal with were not racist. It’s a lot of time in-law stuff. Every time she complains, I think, What the hell does she mean? The people were so racist, they wanted to know what color the baby was going to be… I am like, ‘That’s not racism,’ because even Black people want to know what color the baby is. It’s sh*t. We check behind their ears.

Further, he joked about how Meghan talked about the royal family on Oprah’s show. Additionally, Chris Rock called Meghan out for winning the lottery for light-skinned people. Meghan and the royals were the topics of Rock’s segment, where he claimed that everyone is trying to be the victim, even people who have no idea that they are not victims. His comments about Meghan specifically were that she seems like a nice lady who is just complaining. Doesn’t she seem to have hit the light-skinned lottery, Rock asked. She’s still complaining, isn’t she? According to Rock, he understood Meghan’s “dilemma.” It comes two years after Meghan told Oprah Winfrey that they were concerned about Archie’s birth having dark skin.

Racism Claims By Comedian Chris Rock Spark Controversy
Over the weekend, Chris Rock made fun of Meghan Markle and the royals. Chris Rock, 58, unloaded a few jokes about Meghan, 41, and her in-laws during his Netflix special, Selective Outrage. Then he joked about Meghan talking about the royal family on Oprah’s show. Additionally, Chris Rock called Meghan out for winning the lottery for light-skinned people. Meghan Markle was the target of more “inlaws” jokes from Chris Rock, who said: Black girl trying to be accepted by white in-laws. It’s hard, I know. It’s so hard, it’s so hard. However, it’s not as hard as trying to be accepted by Black in-laws. It’s hard stuff, that’s for sure. In addition, he said: You need to marry a Kardashian if you want your white in-laws to accept you as a Black person. It’s because they accept everyone. The Statue of Liberty is Kris Jenner. It didn’t end there for Chris Rock. Additionally, he described Meghan as a “nice lady,” but noted that she is always complaining.
He went on to claim that everyone is trying to be the victim, even those who know they are not the victims. He said: Didn’t she hit the lottery with her light-skinned skin? It’s still the same old complaining, isn’t it? Also, he discussed Meghan’s explosive interview about the royal family on Oprah’s show. As of yet, neither the royal family nor Prince Harry or Meghan have addressed the issue. During Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey two years ago, she said there were concerns about how dark Archie’s skin would be when he was born. Rock’s special comes after Meghan revealed there were discussions about her son’s skin tone. According to Prince Harry, in an interview with ITV’s Tom Bradby in January, the incident was not essentially racist, as he hadn’t lived within the family whose members were involved. During his new special, Rock argued Meghan was acting dumb, as if she didn’t know anything, and was simply making up her own facts.
