Blackpink’s Jennie to star in The Weeknd’s HBO show The Idol

Blackpink member, Jennie will be featuring in the Weeknd’s latest drama series The Idol on HBO. She will join alongside protagonist Lily-Rose Depp.

Here is everything you need to know.

Jennie from Blackpink joins the cast of HBO’s The Idol

HBO took to Twitter to announce that Blackpink’s Jennie will appear in their upcoming series The Idol.

The network tweeted, ‘Jennie Kim has been cast in #THEIDOL.’

Despite the announcement, Jennie was already seen in The Idol’s recent teaser trailer. She briefly appears and looks to be engaged in a choreography or dance routine.

Regardless, details on the rapper’s role are still being kept under wraps.

Furthermore, Jennie also vaguely shared information on her role or character in the show while talking with the Korean news portal Yonhap via her agency. 

She said, ‘I found the script very intriguing, so I wanted to be part of the series.’

The K-Pop idol further added, ‘I feel very excited. I’ll work hard, so please watch me with affection.’

Meanwhile, fans are excited for Jennie to be seen in The Idol and consider the series to be her legitimate acting debut. 

The South Korean singer was previously featured in television series such as Netflix documentary Blackpink: The Movie, Castle Einstein, and The Clash. She appears as herself in the long-running YouTube series Blackpink.

Jennie’s agency, YG Entertainment recently shared that Blackpink is in the final stages of recording a new album which is set to release in August. 

The company mentioned, ‘A lot of Blackpink-esque music has been prepared over a long period of time. On top of new music and large-scale projects, Blackpink will also go on the largest world tour in the history of a K-pop girl group by the end of the year to expand their rapport with fans worldwide.’

About HBO’s The Idol

HBO’s The Idol is created by Euphoria creators Sam Levinson, Reza Fahim, and Abel Tesfaye popularly known as The Weeknd.

The show is set against the backdrop of the music industry in Los Angeles. It will follow the story of an up-and-coming female pop singer who gets involved in a complicated relationship with an enigmatic L.A. club owner who also happens to be a leader of a secret cult.

Moreover, Levinson, Tesfaye, Fahim, Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Kevin Turen, and Bron Studios’ Aaron L. Gilbert will serve as the executive producers of the series.

It will feature The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp, Troye Sivan, Debby Ryan, Rachel Senott, Steve Zissis, and Melaine Liburd.

Nevertheless, no official release date for The Idol is announced as of yet.
