While playing the remix version of her song Break My Soul at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, the 41-year-old artist overlooked Lizzo’s name. Netizens began to notice that Lizzo’s name was skipped over during Beyonce’s performance of Break My Soul during her Foxborough tour stop. Videos from the concert have gone viral on social media as netizens started to notice that the singer-songwriter skipped over Lizzo’s name as well as instead repeated Erykah Badu’s name four times instead of cutting off the entire string of names after Lizzo’s name appears. The news that Lizzo was being sued by three of her former dancers broke on Tuesday, August 1, and shocked netizens all around the world.
The rapper was being sued for alleged sexual harassment and a toxic work environment. Religious and racial persecution, false detention, interference with economic advantage, and other claims are also mentioned in the lawsuit. Beyonce’s response to the news appears to be this since she refused to accept her name. Despite this, the singer remained kind because Lizzo’s name was not the only one she didn’t accept. The singer mentioned Badu’s name four times so as not to take her name, but she also did not mention the other women after Lizzo so as not to draw attention to her. Lizzo, a Beyonce fan who attended her Warsaw concert, has yet to respond to the charges. The lawsuit against Lizzo claims that, in addition to sexual harassment, the 35-year-old “called attention” to a dancer’s weight increase after a performance, which is shocking given her role as a body-positivity advocate for young people. Former members of her staff have spoken out in support of the victims, describing similar experiences.
