Broadway star Sutton Foster has officially filed for divorce from her husband of 10 years, screenwriter Ted Griffin, amid growing speculation about a romantic relationship with her former The Music Man co-star, Hugh Jackman. The filing, which Page Six exclusively reported, was submitted to the New York County Supreme Court, marking the end of the couple’s decade-long marriage.
Foster, best known for her roles in Younger and Once Upon a Mattress, married Griffin in a private ceremony in Santa Barbara, California, in October 2014. The couple welcomed their adopted daughter, Emily, in 2016 after experiencing years of fertility struggles. The couple seemed strong as they navigated parenthood, and Foster had previously spoken positively about their family life. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she described how the three of them bonded while sheltering together outside of New York City, cherishing mealtime as a family.

However, behind the scenes, rumors about Foster’s marriage began circulating, particularly after her work alongside Hugh Jackman in The Music Man on Broadway. Sources close to the Broadway scene have suggested that Foster, 49, and Jackman, 56, had developed a romantic connection during their time together. According to multiple insiders, the pair has reportedly been in a relationship and has gone to great lengths to keep it out of the public eye.
“They are 100 percent together and are in love,” a source told Page Six. “They want to spend the rest of their lives together.”
Hugh Jackman, who announced his separation from his wife of 27 years, Deborra-Lee Furness, in September 2023, has also been linked to the romance rumors. Jackman and Furness, who share two children, issued a joint statement at the time of their split, explaining that their journey as a couple had come to an end as they sought “individual growth.” Since then, reports have hinted at a deepening relationship between Jackman and Foster, though neither has publicly confirmed it.
Foster and Griffin’s marriage appeared happy for much of their time together. In a 2020 interview, Foster spoke warmly about their life as a family and how much their adopted daughter, Emily, was thriving due to the time spent together. She also shared insights about her marriage in a 2015 interview, describing Griffin as the “smartest guy” she’d ever known. The couple often enjoyed attending theater and watching films together, though it seems that those shared moments couldn’t prevent their relationship from unraveling.
Before marrying Griffin, Sutton Foster was previously married to fellow Tony Award winner Christian Borle. In a 2021 essay for PEOPLE, Foster reflected on her personal journey to motherhood, admitting that she was once unsure about whether she even wanted children. However, meeting Griffin had changed her outlook, ultimately leading to the adoption of their daughter.
As the divorce moves forward, many are left wondering about the future of Foster and Jackman’s rumored romance. While the two actors have yet to make any official statements, sources have indicated that their relationship is strong, though still kept largely out of the spotlight.
Representatives for both Foster and Jackman have declined to comment on the rumors or the recent divorce filing. Fans of both stars will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how this story develops, as Sutton Foster navigates the next chapter of her life post-divorce.
