The controversial influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan will remain in custody in Romania for a fourth consecutive month, an appeals court has ruled. Their detention dates back to December, and they are being investigated for allegations of rape, human trafficking, and participation in a criminal organization. They both deny wrongdoing. According to Mr Tate’s lawyers, he will remain in jail until April 30. They were “speechless,” their spokeswoman Mateea Petrescu said. At Wednesday’s hearing in Bucharest, the brothers’ lawyers said prosecutors did not present any new evidence.

The notoriety of their clients may have also contributed to their detention, they suggested. For the first time, Petrescu says the judge asked the brothers directly how they responded to the prosecution’s flight and public order arguments. Even though a “dynamic exchange” was described by the judge, the two men must remain in preventative custody for another 30 days, until the end of April. The team was left speechless at the court’s decision, Ms Petrescu said. It would take years to rebuild the brothers’ reputation after the continued detention damaged their image.

Controversial Influencer Andrew Tate Custody Is Extended For A Fourth Month By The Judge

An appeals court in Romania has extended Andrew Tate’s custody for the fourth time, pushing his current release date to April 30. Romanian authorities raided the home of Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan in December 2022, searching for evidence of human trafficking, rape, and forming an organized crime group. Tate has been sentenced to 30 days of detention, but several extensions have been granted despite his attempts to be released earlier. Despite being scheduled for release on March 27, 2023, a Romanian court has decided to keep the Tate brothers in prison a bit longer. In accordance with BBC News, Tristan and Andrew Tate will be kept in custody until the end of April 2023. Attorneys for the brothers say prosecutors in Bucharest did not present any evidence at the court hearing on March 22, and their popularity may have played a role in keeping them locked up. According to judges, they are currently keeping the brothers in custody due to their extreme wealth and ability to flee during the investigation. Lawyers have argued that keeping the brothers in custody is unnecessarily harsh.

According to Romanian custody laws, Andrew and Tristan can be kept for up to six months. The brothers (or representatives of them) have not yet commented on the extension. Having appealed the court’s decisions several times, the Tate brothers are likely to attempt an early release in the coming days. Since 2017, Tate has been a professional kickboxer living in Romania. He has previously been banned from numerous social media platforms for expressing misogynistic views. In repeated allegations, he has claimed that Romanian prosecutors lack evidence and their case represents a political effort to silence him. DIICOT announced after the December arrests that it had identified six victims who had been allegedly subjected to “physical violence and mental coercion” and sexually exploited by members of the alleged crime group. For the financial gain of the crime group, victims were lured with pretences of love, intimidated, placed under surveillance, and subject to other control tactics while engaged in pornographic acts.
