3 min readAlabama Barker Opens Up About Weight-Loss Medication and Shuts Down Plastic Surgery Rumors.
Alabama Barker, the 18-year-old daughter of Travis Barker and Shanna Moakler, recently addressed her use of weight-loss medication in a candid video. The young socialite has joined a growing list of celebrities who have turned to such measures to manage their weight, revealing the emotional toll that negative social media comments have taken on her self-image.
In a selfie-style video, Alabama Barker shared her struggle with the harsh scrutiny she faces online. “I have, like, this thing where I photograph so ugly, and people are like, ‘Oh, my God — you’re so fat, and you’re so ugly,'” she explained while applying her makeup. The constant criticism has clearly impacted her, leading her to seek out weight-loss medication. However, she did not disclose the specific drug she is using.

Alabama’s video highlighted her frustration with the way she is perceived in photos. “I see what you guys are seeing, but just, like, meet me in person. I feel like I don’t look like that,” she said. Despite her efforts to counteract these negative perceptions, she admitted, “But I’m on weight-loss medication because I’m tired of being fat and photographing like a damn ogre.”
The young Barker also took a moment to address rumors of plastic surgery that have been circulating on social media. After posting several photos in bathing suits, a follower accused her of having undergone multiple cosmetic procedures. Alabama Barker swiftly shut down the speculation, commenting, “hey let’s stop being delusional.” Earlier this year, she clarified that aside from her lips, she has not had any other procedures done. “I’m natural, besides my lips, accept the fact I’m naturally beautiful,” she stated.
Alabama’s struggles with body image echo those of her mother, Shanna Moakler. The former model, now 49, has been open about her own issues with weight and body image, particularly following the death of her parents in 2023. Moakler revealed that she turned to the weight-loss medication Mounjaro during a dark period when she stopped dieting and exercising due to grief. Her emotional eating was exacerbated by the stress of media inquiries about her ex-husband Travis Barker’s new wife, Kourtney Kardashian, who experienced pregnancy complications with their son, Rocky.
“I was in a very, very dark place. I stopped dieting. I stopped exercising. I just ate like s–t,” Moakler told People magazine. She recalled feeling devastated and overwhelmed by the loss of her parents, which led to her unhealthy coping mechanisms. The pressure was intensified by paparazzi questions about Kardashian’s health crisis. “It was on another level, and I didn’t know how to deal [with it]. I was sad. And I just missed my parents so much,” she shared.
In light of her mother’s experiences, Alabama’s decision to address her own weight and body image struggles publicly is a poignant reminder of the pressures faced by young celebrities. Despite the criticism, Alabama Barker continues to stand her ground, advocating for herself and pushing back against unfounded rumors. Her transparency about using weight-loss medication and rejecting plastic surgery allegations highlights the complex dynamics of self-image in the public eye.
