The Reasons for The Outage –

The CEO of Roblox, David Baszucki posted a blog where he apologized for the delay in bringing the game back. Talking of the factors that caused this outage, he said, “This was not due to any peak in external traffic or any particular experience. Rather the failure was caused by the growth in the number of servers in our datacenters. The result was that most services at Roblox were unable to effectively communicate and deploy.”. “No external traffic” means the system didn’t get hacked.

When a social media site crashes or goes down, people all over the internet start speculating the cause. Be it Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp, Twitter is filled with users questioning the platform’s efficiency.

The same happened with Roblox. Many users thought that this might have happened due to the sudden increase in the number of users. Chipotle started a Halloween event at Roblox which involved a giveaway of $1million worth of burritos. It was shortly after this event, that the gaming platform crashed.

To clarify the situation more, he said that this matter took longer than usual to solve because they couldn’t identify the root problem.

On creating transparency within the community David Baszucki also said “We will publish a post-mortem with more details once we’ve completed our analysis, along with the actions we’ll be taking to avoid such issues in the future.”

He concluded his post by expressing his gratitude towards the players, developers and partners who were patient throughout.

This weekend might have proven as a huge loss to the platform since almost 40 million people use it daily. While many users and partners started questioning their reliability and efficiency.
