Ghostbusters: Afterlife

More ghostbusting is coming with perfect timing for Christmas 2023. The sequel of 2021’s hit film “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is set for December 20, 2023.

Although no plot info for the new film has been reported, the sequel will highlight the characters back in New York City and the Ghostbusters’ Firehouse headquarters after Afterlife moved the action to a small town in Oklahoma.

Directed by Jason Reitman, the child of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” was the fourth film in the famous ’80s horror-comedy franchise and the first to follow the storyline of the first two ’80s films after Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot with a female cast.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a commercial hit netting more than $200 million at the global box office against a $75 million production budget.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife Release Date

After a post-credit scene and a confirmation recently, the release date for the as-of-now untitled sequel for Ghostbusters: Afterlife has been revealed. The development of the most recent outing in the beloved film establishment will hit theatres on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

The confirmation of the release date comes after the sequel was revealed to be returning on Ghostbusters Day, June 8. It was revealed on Ghostbusters Day by Afterlife director Jason Reitman that the codename for the impending sequel is “FIREHOUSE,” obviously suggesting the famous headquarters of the titular team that headed up the 1984 and 1989 classics. It was declared before Ghostbusters Day that Ghostbusters would be continuing, yet it was this announcement that confirmed it is a sequel to Afterlife.

The upcoming film is set to proceed with the story of the Spengler family with the cast of the 2021 return of the series, which included Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Finn Wolfhard, and Carrie Coon, all of them are expected to return.

The story followed the Spengler family, comprising of Callie (Coon) and her two children Trevor (Wolfhard) and Phoebe (Grace), as they moved to Oklahoma after they acquire the place of Callie’s dad, Egon Spengler.

While investigating the old house, the children find that their granddad worked with the first Ghostbusters group and during the time spent finding out about his past, become the up and coming age of Ghostbusters as they bring down an other-common danger that undermines both their new home and the world.

The sequel of the film is set to happen back in the first city where the film establishment got the ball rolling as the Spengler family gets back to Manhattan in New York City.
