New Pokémon animated series to debut in 2023

Pokémon’s original protagonists Ash Ketchum and Pikachu are gearing up to say farewell to the 25-year-old anime franchise. However, the story will continue with a pair of new leads who will embark on a journey to explore the region of Paldea.

The new Pokémon series introduces new characters

Ash Ketchum’s journey in the Pokémon series is complete as he finally became the Pokémon world champion after a long wait of 25 years. Unfortunately, his story is gradually coming to a close.

Meanwhile, the upcoming storyline will continue following the conclusion of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series. 

For the unversed, the season showed Ash and his loyal companion Pikachu winning the Masters Eight Tournament of the Pokémon World Coronation Series.

Besides that, the official Twitter account of Pokémon broke the news about what fans can expect in the new series.

They wrote, ‘Join 2 new characters and 3 Paldea starter Pokémon as they adventure through the Pokémon world! Coming soon in 2023 and beyond!’

Moreover, Variety confirmed that the new storyline will revolve around a new pair of lead protagonists. They are reportedly named Liko and Roy in the Japanese broadcast.

The media outlet added the series will include, ‘the Paldea region’s starter Pokémon Sprigatito, Fuecoco and Quaxly from the recent video games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.’

If you didn’t know, the aforementioned creatures are from the 2022 Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet video games.

What’s more for Ash Ketchum and Pikachu?

Ash and Pikachu will return to the screens of the fans on January 13th to celebrate their long journey to the top in the final 11 special episodes. 

In addition, the episodes will contain the return of several characters and monsters of the past including Ash’s friends Misty and Brock. 

Furthermore, the episode will also share details about what is in store for Ash and Pikachu when the curtain finally falls.

Additionally, Taito Okiura, vice president of marketing for The Pokémon Company International talked about the future of the series in a press release.

He said, ‘Ash Ketchum’s determination and perseverance to achieve his goal of becoming the world’s top Pokémon Trainer over the course of 25 seasons represents the very best of what it means to be a Trainer.’

Furthermore, he added, ‘We cannot wait to celebrate this moment with Pokémon fans. The newest season of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series and this adventure-defining episode air around the world in the coming year. This is a season fans won’t want to miss!’
