Zendaya, Willow Smith, and Kiernan Shipka cover the late singer’s classic 1972 hit “Changes” as a tribute to what would have been the chameleonic singer’s 75th birthday on January 8th. The musical execution, however, was less than stellar according to Bowie’s fans.

On Saturday, W Magazine’s Instagram account shared a video clip of the three women partially singing and partially singing the lyrics of David Bowie’s 1972 hit, to the chagrin of fans who felt as if the women were disrespecting the icon.

Fans Furious With Their Lack Of Knowledge Of The Classic

In spite of their good intentions, Zendaya, Willow Smith, and Shipka failed to impress, amuse, or even offend some fans with their delivery of the song.

W Magazine shared a clip on its Instagram page that shows the celebrities looking down at scripts as they appear to sing and sing the lyrics to the song.

A critic asked why the lyrics were being read from a page? The critic said it would be a shame if they didn’t know them by heart. Yet another labeling the rendition “Cringeworthy.”

Angry fans reacted with comments such as what are they doing with the classic, where is the unsee button, and this is so cruel to David Bowie, on his birthday no less.

One Instagram user wrote, what on earth is this? Several others commented that they thought it was going to be cute but ended up feeling ‘blasphemous’.

Following the music video, some fans expressed their appreciation for the tribute to the late singer. With one person commenting that they loved these girls. Another person said that they loved their tribute to this legend!
