Despite widespread rumors circulating on social media, rapper YFN Lucci is very much alive. The 33-year-old artist, whose real name is Rayshawn Bennett, became the subject of a distressing rumor on Wednesday, September 18, claiming he had been killed in prison. However, this claim has been debunked by his lawyer, Drew Findling, who confirmed to TMZ that Lucci is safe and in good health.
The unfounded rumors emerged just months after Lucci pleaded guilty to a gang-related charge. In January 2024, he struck a plea deal nearly three years after being indicted on charges of murder, gang involvement, and racketeering in Atlanta. As part of the agreement, Lucci received a 10-year prison sentence but could potentially be released as early as January 2025. These rumors suggested he had died under unclear circumstances, causing an uproar among his fans and followers.

Speculation suggests that the rumors about Lucci’s death were an attempt to exploit the high emotions following the death of his former labelmate, Rich Homie Quan, earlier this month. Quan, born Dequantes Lamar, was found dead at his home at 34 years old, with the cause of death yet to be revealed. This tragic event may have fueled the fake news surrounding Lucci, leading to a wave of confusion and concern among his supporters.
Lucci’s attorney, Drew Findling, who defended him during the RICO trial resulting in his current sentence, has been quick to dismiss the false reports. Findling clarified that Lucci is alive and well, emphasizing that the recent rumors are nothing more than baseless fabrications. “After three years of pretrial litigation, more than two weeks of jury selection, and three years of incarceration waiting for his jury trial, today, the prosecution finally relented and dismissed the murder and RICO charges against Rayshawn Bennett,” Findling, along with co-attorneys Gabe Banks and Marissa Goldberg, stated at the time of the plea deal.

This isn’t the first time YFN Lucci has been the target of misinformation. He was one of twelve individuals indicted in a broad case against alleged members of the Bloods gang in April 2021. Initially charged with murder after allegedly being the driver in a gang-related drive-by shooting, Lucci eventually pleaded guilty to one count of violating the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act. The plea deal led to the dismissal of 12 out of the 13 charges against him.
In light of the recent rumors, fans quickly took to social media to debunk the false claims. TikTok and Facebook were flooded with messages expressing disbelief and outrage over the fake news. One TikTok user stated, “This has to be fake, like why they saying that YFN Lucci die,” while another Facebook user demanded accountability, saying, “Y’all need to be SUED!!! This is ridiculous.” These reactions highlight the impact and reach of such misinformation.

As of now, YFN Lucci is serving his sentence but has a chance for early release, thanks to support from the Fulton County District Attorney. In July, the DA sent a letter to the State Board of Pardons and Paroles advocating for Lucci’s early release, potentially as soon as January 2025. “That letter from the district attorney is a powerful punch,” Findling stated, underscoring the support Lucci has received for his potential release.
