Former child actor Ryan Grantham was handed a life sentence after he pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his mother.

Back in March 2020, Ryan Grantham pled guilty to second-degree murder for killing his mother, Barbara Waite.
However, the British Columbia Supreme Court in Vancouver announced the verdict on Wednesday.
The CBC outlet in Canada reported that Grantham will not be eligible for parole for at least 14 years which is included in his sentencing.
Nevertheless, Justice Kathleen Ker claimed Grantham’s saving grace was that he did not go on a spree despite knowing that he committed a crime.

Meanwhile, Grantham’s attorney Chris Johnson mentioned that the 22-year-old star did not seem shocked by the verdict.
 He mentioned, ‘I think he anticipated what the judge gave him as a sentence. I think he’s pretty apprehensive about the whole thing. He’s a fairly tiny person, and to go to the prison system, I’m sure it’s a daunting and scary thought for him.’

Ryan Grantham had mental issues when he killed his mother
Ryan Grantham shot his mother in the head while she playing piano at their home in Squamish, British Columbia. The incident took place on 31st March 2020. Grantham was 21 years old at that time.
It was reported that the Diary of a Wimpy Kid actor planned to kill Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau after he killed his mom.
According to an article by CBC, ‘packed his car with three guns, ammunition, 12 Molotov cocktails, camping supplies, and a map with directions to Rideau Cottage in Ottawa. He started driving east with the notion of killing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.’
But instead of driving towards Trudeau’s residence, Grantham headed to the police headquarters in Vancouver. Subsequently, he turned himself in.
Furthermore, Crown prosecutor Michaela Donnelly referred to a couple of psychiatric reports. They revealed that Grantham was suffering from an ‘intense period of clinical depression’ before he committed the crime.
The reports mentioned that he was ‘experiencing urges to commit violence and kill himself.’
Additionally, it was reported that Grantham decided to murder his mother ‘to spare her from seeing the violence he intended to commit.’
Meanwhile, Grantham’s sister Lisa Grantham mentioned that their mother was battling cancer while talking with Complex magazine.
She added, ‘She was vulnerable and Ryan gave her no chance to defend herself. It pains me to know he was a danger to her life.’
