Here is everything you need to know.

Whoopi Goldberg issues public apology for using the word ‘gypped’

Whoopi Goldberg used an alleged derogatory phrase ‘gypped’ during a recent episode of The View.

Moreover, at that time she was discussing potential criminal charges against former U.S. President Donald Trump in the hush money controversy with adult movie star Stormy Daniels.

She said, ‘The people who still believe that he got, you know, gypped somehow, will still believe that he cared enough… about his wife to pay that money from his personal thing. I just don’t understand. If that was the case, then why all the subterfuge? Why is Michael Cohen paying for it?’

However, Goldberg was quick to post an apology video shortly after the incident. In addition, she claimed that she did not use the words in a belittling way. But she should have realized the effect before delivering the word on television.

The View host mentioned, ‘You know when you’re a certain age you use words that you know from when you’re a kid or you remember saying.’

Additionally, she continued, ‘That’s what I did today and I shouldn’t have, I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it, but I didn’t.’

The 67-year-old actress added, ‘I should have said ‘cheated,’ but I used another word and I’m really, really sorry.’

The meaning behind the Romani slur Gypped explored

The word ‘gypped’ is often used to describe the act of cheating or swindling.

However, it has been viewed as a racist slur towards people with Romani heritage due to its association with Gypsies.

Netizens react to Whoopi Goldberg’s apology after using the Romani slur

Many users took to Twitter to call out Whoopi Goldberg for using ‘gypped’ despite her apology video.

The award-winning actress clarified in her twenty-one-second long video that she meant ‘cheater or swindler’ when she used the word ‘gypped.’

But when on to publicly apologize for jot thinking about the other ways it might be perceived before delivering the controversial term.

One user wrote, ‘She can’t help. She’s old and a hypocrite.’

Someone else chimed in to say, ‘She is ignorant and antisemitic. And what the heck is “subterfuge”?’
