Whoopi Goldberg is an American actor, comedian, author, and television personality. She is one of the co-hosts of the American talk show “The View”. ABC’s show features a panel of women from varying generations talking about the day’s “Hot Topics.”

During a discussion on “The View”, the co-hosts were talking about a Tennessee school banning “The Maus”. The Maus was an award-winning graphic novel about the Holocaust. The co-hosts were debating whether it was right for a Tennessee school to withhold lessons from Maus, a graphic novel about the Holocaust that won the Pulitzer Prize. In the same discussion, Whoopi Goldberg insisted that the Holocaust was not about race. In spite of the Holocaust being triggered by Nazism’s belief in an Aryan “master race,” Goldberg said Adolf Hitler’s “Final Solution” was “not about race.”

Art Spiegelman’s The Maus describes the experiences of his father in German concentration camps, with Jews portrayed as mice and Nazis as cats. In addition, Whoopi Goldberg said that it was about the inhumanity one man inflicts on the other.

Ana Navarro, the political strategist did not agree with Whoopi Goldberg. She stated that it was about white supremacy and targeting Jews and Gypsies. In response, Whoopi Goldberg argued that she was missing the point as there were two white groups of people. She further added the fact that everyone eats everyone, whether they are blacks, whites, or Jews.

Following the backlash, Whoopi Goldberg took to Twitter to apologize for her controversial statements on the show. She admitted that the Holocaust was about race as well as about man’s inhumanity towards another man. Moreover, she shares Jonathan Greenblatt’s statement from the Anti-Defamation League. There was a systematic Holocaust committed by the Nazis against the Jews – who they viewed as an inferior race. She admits and agrees to the same.

Lastly, she apologized for the hurt her statements have caused. Moreover, she says that the Jewish people will always have her support.
