David Cunningham has been arrested by the police for the spine-chilling murder of his 23-year-old neighbor Melia Jones.

Alexandria police arrested 40-year-old gruesome murdered David Cunningham for second-degree murder. He had murdered his neighbor, Melia Jones in her own apartment. Melia Jones used to work in the Reagan National Airport at the customer service department. She won the employee of the month title twice.

Melia Jones suffered from down syndrome. She was living alone for the first time in her life. Her father and stepmother found her body 3 days after her murder. The murderer had sexually assaulted her, strangled her, and wrapped her body in a blanket. In addition, there was a bag over her head. The police reported the incident to be an extremely violent murder.

David Cunningham In Police Custody

On arriving at the crime scene, the police reported that someone had tried to clean the apartment post the murder. Consequently, the authorities found David Cunningham’s fingerprints all over the place. After a thorough investigation, he has been charged with second-degree murder. The medical examiner revealed the cause of death to be strangulation.

In addition, the police arrested him and have held him without a bond. Meanwhile, according to David Cunningham’s attorney, the two were seeing each other. In his words, since David was in her apartment, they’ve “pinned this on him”. After conducting a 5 and a half-hour long interrogation of the murderer, his lawyer stated that his client must go back to the community and fight for his life.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney, Maana Parcham calls David Cunningham’s statements inconsistent. When asked about his relationship with Melia Jones, Cunningham reveals that they had sexual contact, which was consensual. He further claims that there was no sexual intercourse between them. In addition, he claimed that the inconsistency in his statements was a result of being under the influence of drugs and alcohol.

The next court date for his next appearance is March 18.
