According to the prosecutors, Urtula and Oleg exchanged 75,000 texts during the two months before he died.

Of those texts, roughly 47,000 were sent by Inyoung, and some messages advised him to kill himself. She also tried to say that his family would be better off without him, according to Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins.

Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins testified that many of the messages reflected the power dynamics of the relationship. Inyoung made demands and threatened Urtula while holding her fully accountable for her actions.

Suffolk Superior Court Judge Robert Ulmann sentenced Inyoung You to 30 months in jail. However, since the sentence was suspended for 10 years, she can avoid jail time if she complies with the terms of her probation, as reported by the Herald.

Michelle Carter’s case was compared to that of Conrad Roy III, the 18-year-old victim of suicide by his girlfriend Michelle Carter. Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. The couple’s text messages showed Carter encouraging and pressuring him to commit suicide.
