Davyon Johnson, Sixth-grader in Oklahoma received heroism awards after leaping into action to save choking classmates and rescue people from house fires in one day.

Davyon Johnson, age 11, was named an honorary police officer, an honorary sheriff’s deputy, and a hero for his actions on one day.

Johnson received the three prizes at last week’s Muskogee School Board meeting. On December 9, he performed the Heimlich maneuver on a choking classmate. Later that evening, he assisted a mother whose home had burned down, according to the school district’s Facebook page.

A certificate of honorary membership in their respective forces was presented to Davyon Johnson by the Muskogee Police Department.

What Actually Happened?

In the process of removing the cap of his water bottle, a student realized the cap had fallen into his throat while he was loosening it with his mouth. A Muskogee Police Department representative stated that Johnson stumbled into the room where the choking student was.

Davyon Johnson’s principal, Latricia Dawkins told the outlet that Davyon immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver. As reported by the witnesses, the bottle cap popped out when he did it.

Dawkins told the newspaper that he has always wanted to be an EMT. Thus he was able to put that desire into action and save that young man immediately.

According to the police department, Johnson made his second save of the day when he saw a disabled woman walking out of her house. The back of her house was on fire while he was on his way home from school.

Seeing that the woman was “not moving fast enough,” the sixth-grader ran to assist her to her pickup.

In the Muskogee Phoenix, Davyon Johnson said, “I felt like a good citizen, so I helped her get into her truck and leave.” So he crossed the street and helped her.

Ultimately, the fire spread to the front of the house.

He explained to police that he learned the Heimlich maneuver on YouTube.

In honor of the occasion, Muskogee County Sheriff Greg Martin presented the sixth-grader with an honorary deputy plaque. “We are all so proud of you, Davyon,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook.
