Who is Alpo Martinez? Drug Kingpin Alpo Martinez Shot & Killed in NYC

The former drug kingpin Lord Alpo Martinez who ran the streets in New York in the 80s, was assassinated early this Sunday. He died in a drive-by shooting in New York. He was 55.  

Various sources revealed that Martinez was shot multiple times in the chest. Reports told that an unidentified vehicle passing on West 147th Street near Frederick Douglass Blvd shortly after 3 am involved in the shooting.  

Soon, Alpo was rushed to the hospital but could not be saved. He died while he was in the hospital.  

Who is Alpo Martinez?

Alpo Martinez, or simply Alpo, was born on June 8, 1966. He was an American drug dealer of Puerto Rican descent in Harlem, New York City. He became very popular among drug dealers. Alpo expanded his drug trade to other cities, especially Washington DC.   

Alpo was released in 2015 after 35 years of a sentence for 14 murders. He was in a federal supermax prison. Martinez was released from jail after he testified against his associates. Since then, he has been living in the United States witness program.

He was born in East Harlem. Alpo has one other sibling. His single mother raised both the children. He attended Roman Catholic School. Alpo Martinez commenced peddling drugs at the age of 13 years from East Harlem. After some time, he met Azie Faison, who was in West Harlem. It was the time Alpo rose to fame. He started to move up the drug chain in Harlem, and eventually, he became one of the biggest drug dealers in the city.   

Martinez later moved to Washington DC. After that, he expanded his operations from Washington. Eventually, he got involved with the city’s underworld, which enhanced his drug activities. Various rappers and movie films portrayed Martinez. He was also mentioned in multiple songs, including Nas’s Memory Lane, The Game’s Money, and others. He became very popular due to his mention in various songs and movies.  

Alpo Martinez as inspiration

Alpo became an inspiration to various movies that included the 2002 Black Classic Film Paid In full. The movie revolves around the real drug lords (Alpo Martinez, A.Z. and Rich Porter). The film stars many famous faces like Wood Harris, Cam’Ron, and Mekhi Phifer. This film grossed $3 Million at the box office.

The drug dealer Alpo did various evil deeds that a man can do. He murdered his best friend and his partner Porter to save himself. Those two acts destroyed any street credibility that a man had.   

Since then, he has been in jail. After that, he became a government informant. Due to this, he was released in 2015. He has been living in the United States witness protection program since his release.   

On Sunday, news came that he was assassinated.
