Chris Hemsworth has recently learned something about his health that has him concerned about his future. Chris Hemsworth who plays the mighty God of Thunder ‘Thor’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe recently revealed he was genetically predisposed to Alzheimer’s disease in an interview with Vanity Fair. The actor, who regularly posts workout videos on his social media accounts, discovered his “biggest fear” after taking genetic tests while producing National Geographic’s new docuseries “Limitless”. Two copies of the gene APOE4 were found in the Australian actor’s DNA – one from his mother and one from his father – which has been linked to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease. For those unfamiliar with Alzheimer’s disease, it is a progressive disease that results in progressive brain shrinkage (atrophy) and death of brain cells. Alzheimer’s disease is a type of dementia, which is characterized by a decline in the mental capacity that affects daily activities.

What Is Alzheimer’s Disease?

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurologic disorder characterized by shrinkage (atrophy) of the brain and death of brain cells. A person’s ability to function independently is affected by Alzheimer’s disease – the most common cause of dementia. The United States has approximately 5.8 million people aged 65 and older who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease. Over 80% of them are 75 years or older.

It is estimated that between 60% and 70% of the approximately 50 million people worldwide with dementia have Alzheimer’s disease. In the early stages of the disease, you may forget recent events or conversations. Alzheimer’s disease leads to severe memory impairment and impaired daily functioning as the disease progresses. Temporarily improving symptoms or slowing their progression may be possible with medications. It is possible to maintain independence for a short time with the help of these treatments when someone has Alzheimer’s disease. Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers can benefit from a variety of programs and services.

Actor Chris Hemsworth Says He’s At A Higher Risk Of Developing Alzheimer’s Disease In Future

As it turns out, Chris Hemsworth is at a higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease than the average person. As part of his Disney+ series Limitless, in which he makes healthier lifestyle changes to combat the natural decline brought on by ageing, the Australian actor learned the news. According to Dr Peter Attia, the 39-year-old has an eight to ten times greater chance of developing the disease than the average person. According to the Mayo Clinic, Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that causes the brain to shrink and brain cells to die. Medication may temporarily improve or slow the progression of symptoms, but there is no cure for the disease. The episode of Limitless featured Attia telling Hemsworth that we have every blood test imaginable. You have two copies of APOE4. You received a set from your mother and a set from your father.

Alzheimer’s disease is caused by APOE4, the strongest risk factor gene. However, inheriting the gene does not ensure a person will develop Alzheimer’s. The National Institutes of Health found that one in four people carry a single copy of the gene, but only two to three per cent of the population have both. The thought that I won’t be able to remember things from my life, that I won’t be able to remember my wife or my children, is probably my biggest fear. Elsa Pataky, his wife, and Chris Hemsworth have three children, India, 10, Sasha, 8, and Tristan, 8. Vanity Fair reports that the 39-year-old actor is concerned about the possibility of developing Alzheimer’s in the future, even though it isn’t really a diagnosis of the disease. It was just a matter of not manipulating and overdramatizing it and making it into some sort of hokey attempt at empathy, or whatever. Actor Chris Hemsworth was quoted as saying, it’s not like I’ve been handed my resignation.
