3 min readTim Feerick, the bassist for Dance Gavin Dance, died on April 13th. “We are utterly devastated to relay the news that our buddy and bass player, Tim Feerick, passed away last night,” the band wrote on social media. While we deal with this heartbreaking and unexpected loss, we ask that you respect our privacy and that of Tim’s family.” Dance Gavin Dance said that they would be sharing information about their next tour schedule and performance at SwanFest in the near future. The band was set to perform at the Sacramento Music Festival on April 23, as well as the When We Were Young Festival in October 2022.
Who was Tim Feerick?
Tim Feerick, who joined the band as a touring member in 2009, was thought to be in his thirties. He left in 2010 and came back in 2012. Feerick appeared on the band’s most recent album, Afterburner, released in 2020, as well as their most recent song, Synergy. Dance In 2005, Gavin Dance was founded. It now comprises of Tilian Pearson and Jon Mess on vocals, Will Swan on lead guitar, Andrew Wells on rhythm guitar, and Matthew Mingus on drums. The band was signed to Rise Records and released their debut EP, Whatever I Say Is Royal Ocean, in 2005.

Downtown Battle Mountain, their first studio album, was released in May 2007, followed by their self-titled second album in August 2008. Happiness, their third studio album, was released in June 2009. Mess and Lodge rejoined the band in 2010 to record Downtown Battle Mountain II, the band’s fourth studio album. In 2012, they rejoined the group, this time with Tilian Pearson, Tim Feerick, and Josh Benton. Acceptance Speech, their fifth studio album, was released in 2013.

When people learned of Tim Feerick’s passing, Twitter was swamped with tributes; Benton then quit the band, and their sixth studio album, Instant Gratification, was released in 2015. The band released Tree City Sessions, a live album, and Mothership, their eighth studio album. The release of a cover of Bruno Mars’s single, That’s What I Like, in 2017 followed. Artificial Selection, the band’s eighth studio album, was released in June 2018, and Afterburner, their ninth studio album, was released in 2020.
