At the age of 59, Barnett was identified as having younger-onset Alzheimer’s disease. In a message published Wednesday, Publix claimed she died peacefully in the company of family and friends.
“The death of a tremendous humanitarian and social champion has greatly grieved the Publix family”. Says Publix CEO Todd Jones in a statement. “In addition to working at Publix, Carol Jenkins Barnett made considerable donations to a number of charity organizations.
