Johnson was born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1959, and began his illustrious career in 1984, when a casting director seeking for cowboys to act in beer advertisements spotted him. It didn’t take long for the actor to gain notoriety as the Marlboro Man and to obtain modelling jobs with Calvin Klein.

Fast forward to 1986, when he scored his first acting part in a CBS episode of ‘Dallas.’ With Steven Spielberg’s drama ‘Always,’ he got his big break, which led to roles in films like ‘A Guy Named Joe and ‘Flight of the Intruder.’ He earned the title part in the miniseries Ned Blessing: The Story of My Life and Times in 1993, and the recurring role of physician Dominick O’Malley in ‘Melrose Place’ in 1996. Johnson’s final part was meant to be in the 2021 film ” Treasure Valley,” but it was cancelled due to the death of fellow actor and writer Jay Pickett.
