Chicago rapper Lil Durk, born Durk Banks, is now facing two additional charges in connection with an alleged murder-for-hire scheme that led to the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, also known as Lul Pab, who was a cousin of fellow rapper Quando Rondo. With these new charges, Durk could potentially face life in prison if found guilty, marking a significant escalation in a case that has already garnered widespread public and media attention.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California announced the new developments on November 8, revealing a superseding indictment against Durk. Previously, Lil Durk was charged with one count of using interstate facilities to commit murder-for-hire resulting in death. The updated indictment now includes two additional counts: conspiracy and the use, carrying, and discharge of firearms—including a machine gun—in furtherance of a violent crime resulting in death. This expansion of charges intensifies the legal gravity of the case and raises the stakes for Durk and his co-defendants.

According to U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada, the allegations portray Durk as orchestrating a “cold-blooded murder” in an act of violent retaliation. Estrada commented that the shooting occurred in a public setting, endangering numerous bystanders at a busy intersection, which, he said, underscores the reckless disregard for public safety in such acts. Authorities allege that Durk targeted Quando Rondo’s team as revenge for the death of King Von, a close associate of Durk’s who was fatally shot in 2020 outside an Atlanta club. King Von’s suspected shooter was Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks, a known associate of Quando Rondo.

Alongside Lil Durk, five additional men—Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston—are also facing charges in connection to the alleged plot. These individuals are currently detained in Illinois, pending extradition to California. Durk himself was taken into custody on October 24 at Miami International Airport as he prepared to board a flight to Italy. He is currently held at the Miami Federal Detention Center, awaiting transfer to Los Angeles.

The case documentation alleges that Durk and his associates meticulously planned the attack, with some suspects reportedly traveling to Los Angeles using credit cards linked to Durk’s record label, Only The Family. Prosecutors claim that Durk flew to Los Angeles on a private jet with one of his co-defendants, Kavon Grant, and was in the city at the time of the shooting.

On August 19, 2022, three of the suspects allegedly followed Quando Rondo and his entourage, ultimately ambushing them at a gas station. The attack left Quando Rondo unharmed, but his cousin, Robinson, lost his life in the assault.

Lil Durk and his co-defendants have not yet entered pleas, but they are expected to be arraigned in the coming weeks. If convicted, they each face a statutory maximum sentence of life in federal prison. The outcome of this high-profile case could have significant implications, not only for Durk’s future but also for the hip-hop community and the ongoing discourse around violence and rivalry within the music industry.
