A viral Facebook post recently stirred up excitement and confusion online, leading many to believe that Banana Pudding Oreos were about to hit store shelves. On Saturday, October 19, a Facebook account named ‘Authentic You’ shared a picture that appeared to advertise ‘Banana Pudding Cake’ Oreos, complete with an image of a banana pudding next to golden Oreo cookies with a white cream filling. The post, captioned “I’ll take banana pudding over peach cobbler,” quickly caught the attention of social media users, accumulating over 17,000 likes, 1,400 comments, and over 7,300 shares.

Many Oreo fans were thrilled, eagerly anticipating the release of what seemed like a brand-new, delectable flavor. However, the excitement was short-lived, as the post was soon revealed to be fake. There is no official Banana Pudding Oreo product in existence, and no information about it is listed on the official website of the cookie’s manufacturer, Nabisco.

Further investigation into the viral post revealed that it had been flagged by Facebook’s AI tools. Underneath the image, a label was added stating that the content “may have been created with AI,” explaining that the image was likely entirely AI-generated. This is a common occurrence in the age of artificial intelligence, where convincing, but entirely fabricated images can go viral in a matter of minutes.

Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Banana Pudding Oreos have made waves on social media. Back in June, Instagram influencer Darrion Da Don, who has over 531,000 followers, reacted to a similar viral image of Banana Pudding Oreos, this time featuring yellow packaging. The influencer jokingly speculated about the taste, humorously imagining the side effects of consuming the fictional cookies. He quipped, “This gonna make my big toe bigger, this gonna make my bottom lip hang lower, my neck is gonna be down on my shoulders.”

Despite the disappointment that Banana Pudding Oreos don’t exist, Oreo fans can still indulge in many of the brand’s unique flavors that have made it to market over the years. Some of the most memorable include:

  • Hot Chicken Wing: Released in 2018 and available only in China, this flavor featured a salty, artificial chicken taste. Reviews were not kind, with many noting that the combination of chicken and chocolate cookies didn’t work at all.

  • Wasabi: Another 2018 China-exclusive flavor, this cookie had a spicy green filling resembling wasabi. While the wasabi heat was mild, it created a surprisingly unusual combination with the traditional chocolate cookie.
  • Firework: Introduced in the U.S. in 2017 for the Fourth of July, these Oreos featured popping candy embedded in the creme filling, adding a playful twist to the classic vanilla flavor.
  • Swedish Fish: Released in 2016, this Oreo collaboration with Swedish Fish candy was polarizing, with many comparing its flavor to cough syrup.
  • Cotton Candy: A more successful flavor, the Cotton Candy Oreos debuted in 2015 and were re-released in 2023. These cookies, featuring golden wafers with a pink and blue cotton candy-flavored creme, became a fan favorite.

While Oreo enthusiasts may have to wait for the next real flavor, one thing is certain: Banana Pudding Oreos remain a product of online imagination, fueled by AI-generated content.
