VIDEO: Young Ashton Torgerson suffers serious crash at Chili Bowl, reported safe
4 min readDuring the 11th lap of Wednesday night’s Chili Bowl race at The SageNet Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Ashton Torgerson, 16, was involved in a severe crash. As the young driver flipped over multiple times after clipping a wall, he was ejected from the vehicle. He is now awake and speaking with health officials, according to officials. The Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals are an indoor midget car race held during the Tulsa State Fair each year. This race takes place on a 1/4 mile dirt oval track, and the drivers typically race for 30 laps. It is the biggest midget race of the year according to NASCAR.

Before he was transported to the hospital via ambulance, Ashton Torgerson was reported to be awake and alert at the race track. His car flipped several times, causing him to be ejected. Ashton is alert and awake at the hospital, they said. So far, he has passed his tests and has feeling in both hands and feet. Currently, he is undergoing scans. When the crash occurred, Ashton Torgerson was running seventh in the preliminary race.

Safety has come a long way, but I feel that the event is gonna need an overhaul with what it allows over the next few years.
