Sean Kingston, the Jamaican-American artist known for his chart-topping single “Beautiful Girls,” was seen hurriedly leaving a federal courthouse in Fort Lauderdale on Friday morning. The singer, whose legal name is Kisean Anderson, has found himself embroiled in serious legal trouble alongside his mother, Janice Turner. Both are facing federal charges related to an alleged wire fraud scheme involving nearly $1 million.

Kingston, already on probation for trafficking in stolen property, was indicted along with his mother by a Miami federal grand jury. The indictment alleges that the two engaged in a fraudulent operation where they falsely claimed to have made bank wire transfers or other payments for various high-value items, including vehicles and jewelry. Federal prosecutors accused the duo of “unjustly enriching themselves” through these deceptive practices.

As the courtroom proceedings concluded, both Sean Kingston and his mother were captured on video trying to avoid reporters. Kingston was seen quickly getting into a black Cadillac Escalade, while Turner, who was reportedly making obscene gestures at journalists, escaped in a luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S-Class sedan.

This is not the first time Turner has been involved in fraudulent activities. In 2006, she admitted to committing bank fraud and served around 18 months in prison. The current case implicates major financial institutions, including Bank of America and First Republic Bank. Among the victims of this alleged scam is a dealer of Cadillac Escalades, according to the arrest warrants.

The trouble for Sean Kingston and his mother began on May 23, when the singer was arrested while en route to perform at the Fort Irwin National Training Center in California. On the same day, Turner was apprehended during a police raid at her home in Southwest Ranches, Florida.

During their federal arraignment on Friday, held at 299 E. Broward Boulevard, both Kingston and Turner pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and wire fraud itself. They have requested a jury trial, and their defense team, led by attorney Robert “Bob” Rosenblatt, has started the discovery process to gather evidence.

Adding to their legal woes, the mother-and-son pair are also dealing with a related state case in Broward County. This case involves allegations of running an organized scheme to defraud, grand theft, and identity theft. The ongoing investigations into these cases have been conducted by the U.S. Secret Service and the Broward Sheriff’s Office, further highlighting the seriousness of the charges against them.

As the legal battles continue to unfold, the future remains uncertain for the once-celebrated artist and his mother, both of whom are now at the center of a complex web of legal challenges.
