Official Classification of the Incident
The incident, initially described as a crash by some sources, has been officially categorized as a “mishap” during an emergency landing. Major Natalie Batcheler of the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing clarified this distinction in her report.
According to the San Diego Highway Patrol, the helicopter was forced to make the emergency landing during a routine training mission when it experienced mechanical difficulties. Upon landing, the aircraft caught fire, prompting the rapid response from emergency personnel stationed nearby.
