AOC, an activist and politician from the United States. Caused controversy online after she pretended to be handcuffed during an abortion-rights demonstration before the Supreme Court.
AOC and Carolyn Maloney were escorted out by a police officer
On July 19, the 32-year-old politician obstructed traffic outside the courthouse. And a police officer had to escort her and Carolyn Maloney away. AOC can be seen grinning in a popular video while holding her hands behind her back, appearing to be chained. After a few paces, she raised a fist in support of the demonstrators before crossing her hands. Behind her back once more to mimic being handcuffed even though she wasn’t.
Maloney posed as a witness when law enforcement officers approached
When law authorities approached Cortez and Maloney, she faked the stance, which received criticism from several online users. It’s unclear, though, whether the Capitol policeman asked her to keep her hands behind or not. The video of AOC acting like she was arrested on Twitter has 7.2 million views as of the time this article was being written. Cortez received criticism for her phoney pose, and many online commenters criticized her for manipulating the public during such a serious demonstration.

A few Twitter users complimented the Democrat
A few Twitter users, however, praised the Democrat for standing up for women’s rights outside the US Supreme Court and criticized those who said that AOC “pretended” to get arrested for media attention despite the fact that she was peacefully protesting the overthrow of Roe v. Wade. According to The Guardian, on Tuesday, July 19, lawmakers screamed “we won’t go back” and “our bodies, our choice” as they stood in front of the US Capitol.

Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Cori Bush were among the politicians in attendance at the demonstration in addition to AOC. They were seated in the middle of the road when a group of police officers surrounded them and said they would be taking them into custody for blocking the road. 17 members of Congress were among the 35 persons detained during the protests, according to Capitol Police.
