Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga Prepare For Bennett’s Last Big Concert

Tony Bennett has been suffering from Alzheimer’s for quite some time now. As a result, he is in the last phase of his career as a singer. Alongside Lady Gaga, he has sung “One Last Time” in a live concert to honor his legacy. His family invited Anderson Cooper and his crew to record his ‘final act’.

Tony Bennett Battles Alzheimer’s

Tony Bennett, the legendary American jazz and pop singer has been suffering from Alzheimer’s since 2017. His family revealed the same last February. However, he is unaware of the fact that he has Alzheimer’s. He is made to understand that he isn’t performing on stage due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic. Along with his family, he spends most of his time looking through books and old photographs at his home in New York.

After the news of his health came to light, no one expected him to even perform on stage once again. However, in 2021 he has performed in two live concerts along with Lady Gaga at Radio City Music Hall. Recently, his family invited Anderson Cooper and his 60 minutes crew for an interview. Anderson Cooper happens to be the American broadc aster along with being a journalist and a political commentator. He is the main anchor of CNN news broadcast show Anderson Cooper 360°. Although Tony Bennett’s wife, Susan Benedetto had to do most of the talking, the journalist crew were in awe when they saw him prepare for his last show.

Anderson Cooper : 60 Minutes On CBS

Alongside Tony Bennett and Susan Benedetto, Lady Gaga and Tony’s neurologist, Dr Gayatri Devi were also present in the interview. After he got diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, even his family wasn’t sure about his further singing career. It was Dr Gayatri Devi who encouraged him to sing. She believed that singing is the best thing for him. Moreover, she revealed no matter how much medicines and treatments work as a stimulant for the brain, there is no alternative stimulant than performing. Although, he doesn’t remember much about his career spanning for the last seven decades, she knows and recognizes his wife and children. яндекс

It was Danny Bennett’s idea of performing Radio City Concerts along with Lady Gaga. Danny Bennett is Tony Bennett’s oldest son. Although no one was sure about the execution of the concert as his diseased had progressed by June last year. However, an extraordinary thing happened during rehearsals. The moment his accompanist started playing, Tony Bennett became totally immersed in his song. He could sing all his old songs without any notes or cues. Even if he doesn’t remember anything else, all his old songs are there in his memory. His doctor further explained that music happens to be an innate and hard-wired part of his memory. Even if he cannot recall what day of the week it is or where his apartment is, he will recall all his old songs in no time.

“One Last Time” – Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga

In the concerts, Lady Gaga revealed that he addressed her by Sweetheart but did not know who she was. Even while communicating with him, she kept questions simple. Lady Gaga would begin the show and Tony’s wife would have to explain to him what was going on. However, once he entered the stage to perform, he was in his own zone. During the show he even said “Woah, Lady Gaga!… I like that!” and that was the first time he could recognize her.

The Radio City Live Concert opened on Tony Bennett’s 95th birthday. The shows turned out to be a huge success followed by at least 20 standing ovations. He is up for six Grammy awards, including Album of the Year, for his collaboration album with Lady Gaga.
