Tom Holland’s Rihanna Lip Sync Steals the Show: More Compliments Than His Movies!
3 min readIn a recent interview, Spider-Man hero Tom Holland stated that, despite his roles in blockbuster Marvel films and highly acclaimed dramas, he is best known for an unexpected performance: his viral version of “Umbrella” on Lip Sync Battle. “It’s an interesting one,” the British actor, 27, told The Hollywood Reporter. It’s because of the hard work I’ve put into my career and the calculated decisions I’ve made about what I do and when I do it. And, of all the movies I’m proud of, Lip Sync Battle receives the most positive feedback. Holland competed against his Spider-Man co-star Zendaya in the music competition series in 2017.

“I’m proud of it … I don’t give a fuck. I’ve grown up in the most non-toxic-masculine environment possible. I didn’t realize what I was doing was so forward-thinking. I was just like, ‘Yeah, fuck it, I’ll put some… pic.twitter.com/PUXd01fuoI
Holland put on a show-stopping performance which began with “Singin’ in the Rain” and moved to “Umbrella,” with the actor appearing in a bustier and fishnet stockings, proficiently thrusting to the beat, and flipping with the precision of a dance pro. Tom Holland didn’t mean to make a message about toxic masculinity, noting that the attire was put together by a costume designer and he didn’t think twice about it. Holland is now starring in the Apple TV+ drama The Crowded Room as Danny Sullivan, a quiet youngster from Upstate New York who is imprisoned following a Rockefeller Centre shooting in 1979. In the psychological thriller based on the 1981 novel The Minds of Billy Milligan, discussions with an investigator (Amanda Seyfried) help him comprehend his mental health and the circumstances that lead up to the crime.

Tom Holland Says He Gets More Compliments For His Viral Rendition Of “Umbrella” On Lip Sync Battle Than Any Of His Movie
Throughout his career, Tom Holland has appeared in over 30 films, television series, and stage performances. Some of his performances have been lauded as nothing short of spectacular, and he’s also made billions at the box office. There’s a persona for everyone, whether it’s his position as Spider-Man or the incredible Billy Elliot. However, it appears that all of these positions pale in contrast to a two-minute and 25-second performance. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s ‘Umbrella’ lip sync as Rihanna is well-known among fans. To be honest, it did surprise everyone when he walked onto the Lip Sync Battle stage wearing fishnet stockings and a black wig to sing the iconic song. The actor began his performance by singing ‘Singing in the Rain’ in a black suit and hat but then jumped backstage and changed into much less formal attire. The first few lines of Rihanna’s song shocked the audience, and they went insane when they saw what Tom was wearing. “It’s a good one,” the 27-year-old stated.
Because I’ve worked really hard in my profession and have been quite deliberate in determining what I do and when I do it. And, of all the movies I’m really proud of, the Lip Sync Battle gets the most positive feedback. Despite being launched five years ago, it became a cultural phenomenon and is still being circulated on social media. He stated it occurred at a good moment in his career and that he was honoured to be a part of the performance. While some male performers may object to showing up in exposing clothing and shaking their goods for the cameras, Holland felt it was wonderful. “I couldn’t care less,” he said. I grew up in the least toxic-masculine setting imaginable. I had no idea what I was doing was so foresighted. ‘Yeah, f**k it, I’ll throw on some fishnets and dance in the rain,’ I said. That’ll be a lot of fun. I don’t mind’. Holland confesses, ‘you’d never catch me doing it anymore,’ preferring to relax and play golf. But he’s still incredibly pleased of having created such an iconic piece of pop culture.
