TikTok users are going gaga over the new upside-down smile challenge. The latest unusual expression is going viral on TikTok as well as other social media sites.

The trend is all over the platform and users are hopping on it to increase their views. While some users are happy to pull off the challenge, others are delighted that their awkward smile is being treated normally.

But what is the upside-down smile expression?

What is an upside-down smiley face challenge?

To achieve an upside-down smiley face is quite simple. First, you need to wear a frown on your face. Once done, you need to turn it into a slight smile while keeping the frown on your face.

It remains unclear who started the challenge however it is gradually catching the eye of internet users. 

According to Know Your Meme, the trend was first started by Filipino TikTokers in May 2022. Later it received global coverage in June 2022.

As of now, thousands of people are trying the trend on different social media platforms. While some may have aced the expression already, others are trying to get it right.

Regardless, few eagle-eyed netizens were quick to point out that the downwards smiley face trend is quite popular among K-pop idols.

The trend is also being regarded as an awkward smile and people who wear the expression daily are glad that it is trending.

Social media users mostly attach the track Chay Ngay Di in the short clip’s background. The song is sung by Vietnamese musician Son Tung-M TP.

TikToker’s slightly moves to the bass beat of the song but when the sound drops they try to flaunt their upside-down smile.

What are other trends trending over social media platforms?

Snapchat introduced a new crying face filter a few weeks ago which went viral shortly after.

The sad filter caused an uproar on the social networking site as the user’s face changed into a tearful expression.

The humorous part of the expression was that oftentimes people were unaware that they were being filmed with a crying filter.

Most recently, the ‘how did Dora the Explorer die’ trend went viral on TikTok. 

Users had to type the question on Google and film their expression after seeing the answer written on the search engine.

Some of the results displayed on the site hinted that Dora died after she fell ill while others implied that she died after drowning.

Regardless, in reality, the series concluded with Dora completing her mission and thanking viewers for their support.
