For those who aren’t in the know, this new trend might be perplexing. Fortunately, the musician of the popular song has clarified the significance behind his song’s lyrics.

Gunna began talking about “pushing P” on Twitter and Instagram a few days before the release of his new album DS4EVER. He was first evasive about the meaning of the term, inviting his fans to guess. Then, in the midst of a feud with Freddie Gibbs (you can read more about it here), Gunna brought it up again. “But yeah, I’m pushin P,” he tweeted shortly after foreshadowing an upcoming Gibbs diss song. Later that day, Gunna went on a brief rant in which he utilized the term in context, taking veiled digs at Gibbs. “Jumping into someone else’s fight or problem when you don’t know what’s going on is not P,” he explained.

Gunna went on to say, “Now… getting your guys in position is P. Bossing up your b*tch is P. P is putting your life in danger to feed your family. It’s P to be a true na on the internet. I’m attempting to persuade P. It’s not P to speak on a n

a for no cause.” And with that, a new expression was formed. To be more precise, a new phrase became popular in the mainstream. (It’s been used as a regional phrase for years in locations like the Bay Area and Texas.)

What does “Pushing P” Means?

As you’ve undoubtedly guessed by now, P is a positive phrase. If you’re pressing P, it simply indicates you’re being honest and acting appropriately. According to Gunna, it began as a substitute for the term “player,” but it’s highly adaptable. Gunna clarified the meaning of P on IG Live this week, saying, “Fucking your partner’s main bitch ain’t P.” That’s P if you hold the door open for a lady. Arguing with your partner over money isn’t a good idea. We’re not going to do that. We’re putting pressure on P.”

Soon after the album’s release, Gunna addressed some of the complexities of the term, saying, “P doesn’t simply mean player.” P also stands for paper. You can use paper to press this P.” There appears to be a minor but significant difference between “kicking P” and “pushing P.” “If you’re in this shit and it’s rented, then you’re kicking P,” Gunna said as he walked through a lavish property.
