Three teens were charged in a fight that may have led to the fatal stabbing of James McGrath

Connecticut police have charged three teenagers in connection with a high school fight that resulted in the death of Shelton lacrosse player James McGrath in May.

Three new arrests in fatal James McGrath altercation

On 14th May, high school student James McGrath was stabbed at a Laurel Glen Drive house party located in Shelton, Connecticut. 

During the ongoing investigation, cops detained three more teenagers who were supposedly involved in another physical altercation that might have led to the murder of McGrath.

According to the Shelton Police Department, two 17-year-olds and a 16-year-old have voluntarily surrendered. 

The three teenagers allegedly attacked a 16-year-old student. One of them reportedly struck the male with a helmet outside a home on Lazy Brook Road. All three of them are booked under assault charges.

Meanwhile, one of the 17-year-olds was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. However, he was released on a $25,000 bond.

In addition, police said that the two other teens were booked under third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. Moreover, they were released shortly after their arrest.

Michael J. Rosnick, the lawyer represent ing McGrath’s family expressed his stance on the arrests in an interview on Thursday. He claimed that they are, ‘pleased with the news of the additional arrests.’

He further said, ‘I would also note that we are pleased with the progress of the Shelton Police Department. It continues with its exhaustive investigation to hold all those accountable who played a role in the tragic events that took place leading to the death of Jimmy McGrath.’

James McGrath went to the Fairfield College Preparatory School and locals recognise him as one of the school’s LaCrosse players.

Law officials have identified 16-year-old Raul Eliah Valle as the primary suspect who reportedly stabbed McGrath in the heart. He was also charged with three counts of first-degree assault.

According to documents, Valle and his friends allegedly entered a party uninvited.

The report mentioned, ‘Multiple witnesses reported that three to four people who were not invited to the party arrived and exited a dark colored Honda SUV. Witnesses further stated that when the parties exited the vehicle a physical altercation with multiple male participants took place on the front lawn.’

Regardless, the St. Joseph High School student is currently free on a $2 million bond after he was taken into custody in May. Furthermore, he is being monitored by an electronic ankle bracelet and is confined to his home.
