A teenage gunman murdered at least 19 children and 2 adults after he opened fire at an elementary school in Texas on Tuesday. 

The incident is described to be the nation’s deadliest school shooting in about a decade. It is also a gruesome moment for the United States which is already scarred by mass murders.

Multiple people were injured during the latest gun bout with most of them being children. Few are in critical condition.

A teenage gunman kills 19 children in Texas school rampage

Authorities reported that the shooter arrived at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas around 11:32 am local time. 

An official from the Texas Department of Public Safety claimed that as he entered the school the gunman started firing at ‘children, teachers, whoever was in his way’.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Erick Estrada told CNN on Tuesday night that the 66-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl are listed to be in critical condition.

The suspect was said to be wearing body armor during the incident. He exchanged fire with the police officers and two cops were shot.

It was further reported that the law enforcement officials eventually fatally shot the teenage suspect on the scene.

He was one of the adults who was killed during the incident with the other one being school teacher Eva Mireles.

Who was the suspect?

Texas Governor Greg Abbott told the outlet that the suspect was an 18-year-old male who resided in a town called Uvalde, which is about 130 km west of San Antonio.

The official added that he shot his grandmother and abandoned his getaway car before he launched a bloody rampage at Robb Elementary School.

The suspect is named Salvador Ramos who was carrying a handgun and likely a rifle when he opened fire at children and teachers.

Two cops said that the handgun appeared to be an AR-15 assault weapon.

The motive for his horrible action remains unclear as of now. The officials further mentioned that Ramos acted alone.

President Joe Biden addresses the tragedy

President Joe Biden condemned the shooting and addressed the incident on Tuesday night.

He said, ‘Another massacre. Uvalde, Texas. An elementary school. Beautiful, innocent second, third and fourth graders. And how many scores of little children who witnessed what happened- see their friends die, as if they’re in a battlefield, for God’s sake. They’ll live with it the rest of their lives.’
