Temecia and Rodney Jackson: Texas Couple Fights to Get Their Newborn Back from Child Protective Services
3 min readRodney and Temecia Jackson, who live in Texas, claim that CPS took their daughter from them after a dispute occurred between their doctor and the couple over Mila Jackson jaundice. They also said they would take their daughter to court to get her back. On March 21, Mila Jackson was born at Rodney and Temecia Jackson’s home under the supervision of a licensed midwife. Following a CPS report filed by their paediatrician, the Jacksons said their daughter was taken from them. Apparently, Mila’s parents didn’t take her to the hospital and treated her at home with guidance from a midwife, according to the doctor’s report.
While in Texas, the @gop is stealing babies and putting them into the system. So much for all lives matters and pro life. We know…we know, except for living children. @POTUS@VPhttps://t.co/bdS9fjahxW

A midwife assisted in the birth of Mila Jackson. Mila’s parents took her to the paediatrician for a standard newborn checkup a few days after her birth, and the nurse practitioner gave her a clean bill of health. Later that day, they received several messages from the doctor’s office informing them that their daughter had jaundice and high levels of bilirubin, a substance produced during red blood cell breakdown. Mila Jackson’s parents were advised to take her to the hospital by Dr. Bhatt. The Jacksons, however, decided that Mila could be treated at home with the help of a certified professional midwife.

Mila Jackson: What Happened To Her? A Jaundice Controversy Concerning A Texas Couple’s Newborn Is Explored Amid A Plea For Its Return
The couple claims that state Child Protective Services took Mila, their two-week-old infant after they disagreed with the doctor about the infant’s jaundice. Temecia Jackson, 38, of Desoto, the child’s mother, says the family is going to court to get her back. According to reports, officials arrived at the Jackson’s Dallas home on March 28 to take the newborn, but the paperwork incorrectly identified the baby’s mother as another woman with a criminal record. During a news conference Thursday, Temecia Jackson said she felt like she had lost her baby since Rodney Jackson was referred to as the baby’s “alleged father.” We have been treated as criminals – which is not true. This is a nightmare I wouldn’t wish on anyone, Temecia Jackson’s husband Rodney Jackson said. In an email to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jackson said that they took her newborn baby from her arms and handed her paperwork. As soon as I learned that my child had been stolen, I went to the police department and filed a police report. On March 21, Mila Jackson was born at home in Desoto, a suburb of Dallas, with the help of a midwife.
A routine checkup was performed at a local hospital three days later, and the Jacksons were pleased to find that she was in good health. According to reports, she was taken back to the hospital on March 27 after developing jaundice. We were told by the paediatrician that the levels are high and they will test the blood and follow up,” Temecia said. The Jacksons said they preferred to do the therapy at home instead of admitting the baby to the hospital for light therapy immediately. The baby develops infant jaundice when his blood contains too much bilirubin, which is a yellow pigment found in red blood cells. According to Temecia Jackson, the doctor did not see Mila but suggested she be hospitalized because of her bilirubin levels. Mila was taken from the Jacksons’ home by officials on March 28. Dr. Anand Bhatt recommended that Mila be taken away from her parents based on Mila’s dangerously high bilirubin level of 21.7. After repeatedly trying to contact the parents, Bhatt reported the family to Child Protective Services. A court hearing is scheduled for April 20 for the Jacksons, who have visited their baby in the hospital.
