Taylor Swift performed Carole King’s “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” at the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Swift and Hudson inducted King into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, October 30.

Swift moved around the stage slowly and methodically, letting the music and words wash over her, aided by a chorus of soft-glow supporting singers and a lush foundation of synths – the song felt like it could’ve slipped right into 1989. Her performance was silky smooth and full of adoration, demonstrating that she had grown up listening to King’s songs. Moreover, Swift wore a black, lacey bodysuit with minimal glitter embellishments. And, matching glittery eyeshadow to fit the night’s formal tone.

Swift seemed ecstatic to be performing the song, beaming broadly after the first chorus.

As the audience erupted in applause and added theatrical vocal flourishes here and there for emphasis. She had a sarcastic look on her face after singing some of the more pointed lyrics, such as “So tell me now, and I won’t ask again,” which proved she meant business. Furthermore, a video tribute featuring Sara Bareilles and Elton John was also featured as part of the tribute. Tom Hanks claimed in the video that “Tapestry” is “probably the greatest song of all time.”

Carole King’s Reaction

However, King, on the other hand, was even more impacted by the performance: as the song faded to its conclusion, the camera cut to her in the audience, and King was wiping away tears and signalling her acceptance and agreement to Swift.

Despite the fact that Swift has never covered the song before, the two women have met before. King presented Swift with the Artist of the Decade award at the 2019 American Music Awards, praising the musician’s versatility. “I’ve known several wonderful songwriters throughout the years, as well as some fantastic singers and performers,” she remarked. “It’s unusual to witness so many talents in one individual.” Taylor Swift is a pop star from the United States.

Therefore, she is one of the few modern pop performers whose song credits list her as the sole songwriter. Her lyrics speak to people of all generations, her music touches everyone, and she has a huge global effect.”

Moreover, Swift and King have both been nominated for Grammy Awards for Album of the Year. Swift won three times for Fearless, 1989, and folklore, the latter for 1971’s Tapestry and the former for 2008’s Fearless, 2014’s 1989, and 2020’s folklore.
